Senator Godswill Akpabio has won the coveted Senate Presidency race against close rival, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari.
The former Akwa Ibom governor was returned elected as President of the 10th Senate after scoring 63 votes defeating Senator Abdul’aziz Yari who scored 46 votes.
Senator Godswill Akpabio has also been duly sworn in as the President of the Senate for the 10th National Assembly.
The race for the Senate President’s seat for the 10th National Assembly (NASS) got intense on Tuesday morning as voting commenced at the Red Chamber in Abuja, Nigeria.
Voting began at exactly 08:45am on a state-by-state basis, alphabetically and ended at exactly 09:15am.
In an interview with Premium Times on Monday, Senator Akpabio said promised “Robust legislative debate which I’ll do everything possible to ensure that we meet the aspirations of Nigerians. We will hold public hearings before we take any decision in the interests of Nigerians, for the betterment of Nigeria.”
“We will think Nigeria first, every senator irrespective of political party must come into the chambers as a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria.”
