Spouses of late Nigerian Ebola victims test positive – Health Minister
Today, Health Minister Prof. Chukwu told reporters at a press briefing in Abuja that there are 2 new cases of the disease from secondary contacts of the Liberian-American primary victim Patrick Sawyer.
The Minister said the two new cases are spouses of dead Ebola victims who had primary contact with late Patrick Sawyer. Prof. Chukwu said the two new cases are the first secondary contacts in isolation to test positive to the deadly virus.
He said he cannot be sure of the complete eradication.
According to reports, the patients are currently being treated in Lagos.
Chukwu said the public should not panic, and that “the battle is not over but we have done very well.”
This brings the total number of cases in Nigeria to 14, with 5 deaths and 5 survivors.
He stated that the Federal Government was working with the Lagos State Government and other partners to maintain vigilance and strengthen containment activities.
