PDP rejects Amina Zakari as acting INEC Chairman, says she is too close to the Presidency

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alleging that she is too close to the presidency.
Zakari was on Tuesday appointed by President Mohammadu Buhari to replace Mohammed Wali as the acting chair of the commission following the conclusion of Prof. Attahiru Jega’s term of office.
Before her appointment was announced, Jega had handed over to Amb. Mohammed Wali, a national commissioner of the commission from Sokoto State.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, who conveyed the appointment in a letter, said the appointment was with effect from 30th June 2015 until the appointment of a substantive Chairman.
Chief Olisa Metuh, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, stated his party’s position at a crowded press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
He said his party would want the acting chairman of the commission to state her alleged closeness to the Presidency and one of the governors of the All Progressives Congress from the North-West.
