Things did not go as planned for some intending escapee inmates of Nigeria’s Kirikiri maximum prison as about 10 inmates have been reportedly shot dead while attempting to escape from the facility at Kirikiri Town, in Apapa area of Lagos State, yesterday.
Unconfirmed sources alleged that some inmates there plotted the jail break to pave the way for their escape but unfortunately, about 10 of them were shot dead. It was also reported that the inmates had earlier protested for several hours on their conditions in the cells, hurling abuses and curses at the warders and prison authorities
Meanwhile, Policemen from Area ‘B’ Police command, Apapa, led by the area commander, ACP Ndubueze Innocent Anene, led teams of policemen from the area command and the eight police stations under him to the scene to reinforce security around the prisons and jointly with the prisons security were able to bring the situation under control. The prisons authorities said they are investigating the incident and will make a statement soon.
