IS VIO MEANT TO OPPRESS LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS? – SOLA SOLOMON ENITAN
I find it difficult to stomach this….one of my company cars was impounded by some VIO men (Vehicle Inspection Officers) along Herbert Macaulay Way yesterday afternoon…reason?…Inability to produce Lagos State Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) Card on demand…the occupants who are members of my staff were asked to produce the card within 24 hours…the VIO men went ahead to issue a fine of N20,000.00 ….when the Card was given to them today, fully attesting to the fact that we are compliant with the Lagos. State Government rules on company vehicles, and therefore free of any contravention , the VIO men reduced the amount payable on the fine to. N10,000.00 rather than let off my car from their custody. I sent a text message (SMS) to the Commissioner for Transport intimating him of this potential fraud and illegal impoundment of the car, and your guess is as good as mine…he never responded..I believe maybe EXCO meeting of yesterday extended till today and he has not seen his phone , otherwise he would have responded…..but what would your advise be in this matter? Should I report to BRF? Via a petition while the car is impounded and unable to serve us or should I go to court and sue for N100m?
