The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has called for the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over his inability to control the security situation in the country.
Abaribe’s call, which caused a stir on the floor of the red chamber, was made while lawmakers were discussing a motion on national security challenges and calls for restructuring in plenary on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
Abaribe spoke after the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, presented his motion on rising security challenges in the country.
He explained that his call for the President to resign was because he had failed to solve the security challenges in the country, years after Nigerians voted the APC government into power to address it along with the power challenges in the country.
According to PUNCH, the senator said those who live by propaganda will die by propaganda and that the attitude of the president to insecurity in the country, surprised him.

He said the hard work that was supposed to be done to secure the country was not done because of the propaganda. He further said excuses for non-performance is now staring them in the face.
He said Niger and Jos killings by Boko Haram terrorists indicated that the insurgency war was far from over and that the opposition members in the National Assembly are of the opinion that Buhari should resign from office.
“Nigerians will go to the government and ask the government to resign because they did not elect the chief of staff, the police IG, service chiefs and others.
“Nigerians voted a government into power. We are going with stones to stone them now because they have failed.”
When the uproar generated by Abaribe subsided, Senator Abdullahi Adamu said Abaribe’s submissions were unnecessary.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, also appealed to his colleagues to approach the issue with caution.
Meanwhile, some other senators have called for the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and urged President Buhari to remove the service chiefs as they do not have any new ideas in fighting insecurity in the country.
The senators also protested when the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, in his contribution vehemently opposed the creation of state police on account of paucity of funds crippling the states and possible abuse by the state governors.
