The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), last week impounded 10 containers of baby diaper worth over N200 million allegedly imported into the country by three Chinese nationals.

Addressing reporters on the fake diapers, which were intercepted at Railway Terminus, Ijora Olopa, Lagos, SON’s Director of Inspectorate and Compliance Department,  Bede Obayi, said the organization has handed the suspects over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

He revealed that the 10 impounded containers allegedly brought into the country by the suspects, contained various branded and unbranded baby diapers suspected to be fake and adulterated.

Obayi said: “We intercepted the fake products through our intelligence efforts. We have seen that the products are poor in quality; they are fake, substandard and dangerous to our babies. Because of the nature of the product, which is sensitive, they should not be allowed to be packaged in this kind of environment.”

According to him, stuffing of the products was done in an unhealthy environment that was capable of inflicting skin rashes and diseases on babies when used.
