World Cup: Netherlands Beat Mexico 2-1

1

Netherlands have squeezed past Mexico with two late goals securing a 2-1 win and booking themselves a place in the quarterfinals at the World Cup in Brazil.

Mexico had the better chances from the first half and finally made the breakthrough in the second when Dos Santos shot from the outside of the box found the bottom corner.

The Netherlands had their best chance when De Vrij had his point-blank shot saved on to the post by Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa who has been having a brilliant tournament.

But with three minutes of regular time remaining, Wesley Sneijder rocketed home a volley from a corner to level the game before Arjen Robben won a penalty in the second minute of injury time which Jan Klaas Huntelaar coolly dispatched.

Netherlands will now play the winner of either Costa Rica or Greece in the quarterfinals.
