NPA appoints Sylvester Egede Port Manager, TinCan Island Port

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) management has appointed Mr. Sylvester Othuke Egede as the substantive Port Manager of the Tincan Island Port Complex.

Egede succeeds Mr. Akin Leoso who served in an acting capacity for two months (November and December) 2023 since the exit of Mr. Jubril Buba the former Port Manager who retired from service on November 2, 2023.

News about Egede’s appointment was contained in a statement issued by Head, Corporate and Strategic Communications of the TCIP, Mr. ‘Sola Adesanwo made available to the media on Wednesday.

BRANDPOWER reports that Adesanwo said, prior to Sylvester Egede’s appointment as the Port Manager of TinCan Island Port Complex (TCIPC), he had served as the Traffic Manager of the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa since August 2023 until his appointment as the substantive Port Manager of the TCIP Complex.

Before then, Egede had served at Kirikiri Lighter Terminal also as the Traffic Manager from August 2021 to August 2023.

Between 2012 to 2016, he served as the Personal Assistant to the Executive Director Marine and Operations.

Egede, a thorough-bred Operations Officer, first served as a Traffic Manager at the Rivers Port, Port-Harcourt on his appointment as a Principal Manager Operations from 2016-2021.

Earlier, he was Manager Traffic Operations Coordinator, National Integrated Power Project (NIPP/NPA Project Unit) from 2006-2012.

Other posts he has held in the past includes Personal Assistant to Port Manager (Tincan Island Port), Secretary to the Implementation Committee on ISPS Code Regime in the Port between 2001-2004, Senior Traffic Officer (Supervision of Vessel), discharge , handling and delivery of cargos (TCIPC) from 2000- 2001.

Egede belongs to several elite professional bodies including the American Society of Safety Professionals (member). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT) etc.

Egede holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Geography from the, University of Jos (1986-1990) and a Masters degree in Transport Planning from the Lagos State University (LASU) (1997-1998).

Sylvester Egede is widely traveled and has attended several conferences and seminars within and outside the country. Some of these are ASCON Workshop on Developing Leadership Competence and Capabilities (2020), International Maritime Organisation (IMO) (April 2014); September 2019 and in October 2023 in (UK).

He also attended the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) Conference held in Abuja in August 2018 as well as the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) held in Houston, Texas, USA) at various times between 2015 and 2023.

Egede also attended Port Management & Administration Programs at the Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden in 2012.

An astute and seasoned Ports Operations professional, Sylvester Egede, who has since resumed duties as Port Manager of the Tincan Island Port, is happily married and blessed with children.
