Mourinho begs Abramovich to allow him stay and clear Chelsea’s ‘bad apples’
Jose Mourinho has reportedly begged Roman Abramovich to let him carry out a major makeover of the Chelsea squad in January, according to reports by isoccerng.
Mourinho’s Chelsea career is hanging by a thread, but the Portuguese coach looks set to unleash hell on his under-performing squad in January if Abramovich gives him the chance to stay in charge of the Premier League champions.
The Blues saw their Premier League campaign take another turn for the worse on Saturday after a 1-0 defeat away to Stoke.
The Sun reports that Mourinho has pleaded with owner Abramovich to let him “remove the players he considers to be bad apples in the squad and get the club moving in the right direction again.”
It is thought Mourinho has chatted to the club’s billionaire owner Abramovich and believes he can transform the Blues’ fortunes by carrying out a mass clear-out of unwanted players.
The report suggests Mourinho wants to get rid of the flops responsible for the club’s dismal start to the campaign.
The paper says that Mourinho “wants the chance to root out the players he feels are to blame,” while other British media outlets including the Mail are suggesting that the coach will be given time at Stamford Bridge, but must show signs of a recovery soon. If he does manage to hold on, then get the popcorn ready – we’re in a scintillating winter transfer window.
A source close to Mourinho told SunSport: “He wants to get to the January transfer window to remove the players he considers to be bad apples in the squad and get the club moving in the right direction again.
“Jose does not want deadlines put on him for improvement but Roman has told Mourinho he needs to see signs of an upturn.”
However, the Mirror build on recent reports of Diego Simeone being attracted to West London by suggesting that the Atletico Madrid boss is “ready to move to Chelsea next summer.”
However, the Argentine coach is said to have “grave concerns about the existing squad” and wants “major investment and strong control” over transfers.
