MainPower Announces 10-Day Power Outage in Enugu for Maintenance Upgrade
Enugu, Nigeria — MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has announced a 10-day scheduled power outage across several parts of Enugu metropolis to enable crucial maintenance, rehabilitation, and system reinforcement work.
The company said the temporary outage, which begins on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, and ends on Thursday, October 31, 2025, is part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades being executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at its New Haven Station.
According to a statement by Mr. Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at MEDL, the repairs will be carried out in phases, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, to minimize disruption and ensure network safety.
Areas Affected by the Scheduled Outage
Ezeh outlined that the maintenance exercise will affect several 33KV feeders and distribution lines in rotation.
The specific schedule includes:
- Oct. 22: Kingsway Line 1
- Oct. 23: Emene Industrial Line 1
- Oct. 24: Thinkers Corner Line
- Oct. 25: Trans Ekulu Line
- Oct. 26: Kingsway Line 2 and 9th Mile Line
- Oct. 28: Emene Industrial Line 2
- Oct. 29: Ugwuogo Line
- Oct. 31: Ituku Ozalla Line
The affected locations during the maintenance include Emene Industrial Layout, Abakpa Nike, Trans Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Nowas, Ugbodogwu, Ugbo Nnebedum, Nkpologwu, 9th Mile, Shoprite, Golf Estate, Zoo Estate, and Okpara Avenue.
Other impacted areas are Kingsway Road, Abakaliki Road, CBN Quarters, Railway Quarters, Artisan, Ngwo, Coal Camp, Ologo Quarters, Uwani, Asata, Golden Royale, Iva Valley, Centenary City, Ugwuaji, Amechi, Obeagu, and surrounding communities.

Ezeh emphasised that the maintenance work is a necessary intervention to strengthen power delivery, reduce fault frequency, and enhance system reliability across Enugu and adjoining areas.
“We regret any inconvenience this exercise may cause our esteemed customers,” Ezeh said.
“We appeal for understanding as the project is aimed at improving service quality and ensuring more stable electricity supply after completion.”
The Mainpower spokesperson also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency and stakeholder communication, assuring customers that all efforts will be made to restore power promptly each day after work hours.
Power Infrastructure Reinforcement for a Growing City
Energy experts describe the planned maintenance as part of a wider effort to modernise Nigeria’s regional electricity networks, particularly in fast-growing cities like Enugu where population growth and industrial expansion have stretched existing infrastructure.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and MainPower have been collaborating to upgrade substations, replace aging equipment, and improve voltage stability — key prerequisites for sustained energy reliability and industrial competitiveness in the Southeast.
With the recent reforms under the Electricity Act 2023 and the establishment of state-level regulatory authorities, Enugu’s electricity ecosystem is expected to experience greater operational efficiency and consumer-focused delivery in the near future.
