The Presidential Candidate of major opposition party in Nigeria, All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari has promised freedom of the media if elected to office on March 28, 2015.
According to VON, he made the promise at a meeting with Media Proprietors and Publishers in Abuja.
He thanked the media for its role of promoting democracy in Nigeria and pledged to honour the Nigerian Constitution and respect the media.
“I want to give you my full assurances that in this democratic dispensation, I will ensure that the Nigerian constitution is upheld. This includes respect for the media, respect for the right to free expression and freedom of speech,” he said.
The APC Presidential candidate also took time to answer questions from journalists.
Mr. Frederick Nwabofor from the Cable asked “If you become President, will you form a National Government?”
“It is an issue that cannot be decided by a Presidential candidate, it is a serious party issue and must be subjected to thorough discussion,” Buhari replied.
Another journalist from Silverbird TV asked: “What is your five point agenda if elected president?”
“I don’t have a point agenda. APC has a manifesto which I will work in line with. In my meetings around the country, I have realised that the major problem is Insecurity, Death of the economy literally,” said Buhari.
Responding to the question on whether he will participate in Nigeria’s election debate, General Buhari said there was nothing to debate about because “everyone knows what Nigeria’s problems are”.
