Eagles Fail To Fly In Uyo, Loses AFCON Ticket To Congo

The Super Eagles will not be defending their title as they have failed to qualify for the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea after playing out a 2-2 draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

All the Super Eagles needed to do was beat South Africa to qualify for next year’s Nations Cup, but as easy as it sounded they couldn’t muster the win at the newly built Uyo stadium.

The Bafana Bafana did a remarkable job in covering all the blades of grass against an ineptitude Super Eagles team that was devoid of invention.

Prior to the match, South Africa’s coach Shakes Ephraim Mashaba boasted that they were coming to Nigeria for all three points and to show that their performances so far was not a fluke.

Nigeria defeated Congo on Saturday, setting the tone and hopes for qualification, however they were the architect of their own failure, failing to make home advantage count and dropping vital points.

Congo was away at Khartoum against Sudan and all looked nicely set for the Super Eagles. Rather the Congolese did their own part of the deal, and the other result went their way as they sealed second spot in group A.
