Canadian tariffs on U.S. products came into effect on Thursday, in response to the 25per cent tariffs imposed by the U.S. President Donald Trump on steel and aluminium imports.
From midnight (0400 GMT), Canada applied tariffs on about 29 billion dollars (20 billion U.S. dollars) in products imported from the U.S., including steel and aluminium, computers and sports equipment.

Canadian Prime Minister, designate Mark Carney said the unjustified U.S. tariffs hurt Canadian workers.
“We’re rightly retaliating and every dollar from our tariffs will support our workers,’’ he wrote on X.
Carney was earlier on Sunday chosen as the new leader of the Liberal Party, replacing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and is expected to assume the role of prime minister of Canada temporarily.
He is due to be sworn in on Friday.
Trump argued that excessive steel and aluminum imports threaten U.S. national security.
