The World Bank has debarred seven Chinese construction firms, including a major railway builder for violating its fraud and corruption policy.
The names of the seven have appeared on the World Bank’s sanction list, meaning that they are ineligible to bid for World Bank-funded projects for a specified period of time. Details of infractions were not given.
On August 14, 2019, the bank announced the 15-month debarment of Chinese firm Beijing Jingold Construction Co., Ltd in connection with fraud during the procurement process for the $38.6 million Samoa Aviation Investment Project, an airport improvement scheme.
The bank found that the company had a history of contract non-performance at the time of bidding, but misrepresented this fact when it bid. The company did not win the contract.
