Lagos to host 2015 Federation Cup final on November 22

Just like the past four years, Lagos’ Teslim Balogun Stadium will host the final of the 2015 Federation Cup between Akwa United and Lobi Stars on November 22. This was revealed by  a top official of the Pride of Benue, reports Goal.There has been lots of insinuations regarding where the final of the 2015 edition of the oldest club competition will take place after the erstwhile Governor of Lagos State, Raji Babatunde Fashola who signed a five year sponsorship with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) left office in May this year.

Barnabas Imenger, the Team Manager of finalists Lobi Stars, has confirmed to Goal that the final match will hold in Lagos on November 22 and that they are targeting a win over Akwa United at the Teslim Balogun Stadium to atone for their narrow loss to Heartland in the 2012 grand finale.

“We are going to play the Federation Cup final on November 22 in Lagos. We will be going to Lagos with our sight on the Federation Cup title. We want to make amends for our loss to Heartland in the 2012 final. We will ensure that we get the better of Akwa United at the Teslim Balogun Stadium,” he said.

“We know we still have two matches before the end of the season and one of them is the battle with them in the final match of the NPFL season in Uyo. We won’t be intimidated. We are focused on the Federation Cup tie and whatever matches we play before then are mere build up to the final match in Lagos.”

Lobi won the Federation Cup once 12 years ago after they beat Sharks 2-0 in the final but their last two attempts to lift the trophy in 2005 and 2012 were frustrated by Enyimba and Heartland in that order.

Akwa United on their part are taking part in their very first Federation Cup final.

To get to the final, Lobi beat Enugu Rangers 1-0 in a highly controversial semi final tie in Katsina while Akwa United got the better of Nasarawa United 1-0 in a tie decided in Abeokuta.
