Kidnapped University of Abuja workers, children rescued – Police

Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba

The police in the Federal Capital Territory say all abducted victims at the University of Abuja have been rescued and reunited with their families.

The police also said the rescue was achieved through a joint operation with other security agencies.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by a police spokeswoman DSP Josephine Adeh.

On Tuesday, armed bandits broke into the staff quarters of the University of Abuja, seizing a professor, his children and a yet-unclear number of other staff members.

The incident came as Abuja and its environs had been coming under increased security threats from violent criminals.

“Preliminary investigations, however, revealed that six persons were allegedly abducted into the forest by the criminals on sighting the security operatives,” the police had said.
