The Falconets of Nigeria in their second Group game B on Wednesday defeated their Canadian counterparts with 3 goals to 1 at the ongoing U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.
15th minute into the match, Canada’s Gabrielle Carle opened scoring to put her team in the lead.
Nigeria’s Chinaza Uchendu, however, scored the equalizing goal at the 45th minute through a penalty.
Joy Bokiri gave Nigeria her second goal in 40 seconds at the blast of the whistle for the second half, PM News reports.
Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed the victory for Nigeria in the 73rd minute after defying the Canadian defence to give Falconets their third goal.
Nigeria having endured a 6-0 spanking from Japan in their opening match now has three points from two matches.
Nigeria will now face top-of-the-table Spain in Group B, while Canada will take on Japan on Nov. 20 in their last group games.
The tournament which started on Nov. 13 is expected to end on Dec. 3.
