Edu-tech Hub canvases enabling environment for youths to thrive

The Learners Corner Education Hub has called for a robust enabling environment for youths to thrive in the country.

The Founder and Chief Executive officer (CEO) of the Hub, Mr  Julius Ilori, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday .

Ilori said that youths could achieve whatever they  dreamt of by proper mentorship and hard work.

“Nigerian youths are energetic, creative, very innovative and hardworking,” he asserted.

Ilori said that the Hub was born out of the challenges and vaccum created in the education sector during the pandemic.

He said that many young people were idle with crime rate on the rise because of the lockdown.

“We decided to engage many young people to work.

“We supported about 2000 young people.

“We started creating visual content to engage them and to bridge the knowledge gap,” Ilori told NAN.

He said that the mission of the learners’ corner was to promote inclusion through technology and education.

“Our vision is to reduce the number of out-of- school children.

“We hope to transform the educational system in Nigeria and access to quality education, showing and empowering teaching outcomes and creating access to quality education.

“We are focused on democratising access to affordable education through the use of technology,” Ilori said.

The CEO said that the challenges encountered while setting up the Hub included inadequate funding, difficulties in helping teachers have a change of mindset, power, access to laptops and data.

He noted that from the humble beginnings, learners corner have their products they are already pushing out to schools; and they are engaging with them.

NAN reports that available data from the United Nations show that Africa has a very young population.

With the current numbers of out–of-school children in Nigeria, averaging 11 million, it is imperative to rethink and re-tool the current system of education in the country to achieve maximum results.
