Dangote, GTB, NSE, Others Nominated For African Business Awards
Nigeria’s business mogul, and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Guaranty Trust Bank; the Nigerian Stock Exchange; and the managing director of Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base, Amy Jadesimi, are among the nominees for this year’s African Business Awards.
The African Business Awards, which is in its seventh year, will be held on the eve of the African Leadership Forum, a high level dialogue bringing together some of Africa’s leading political and business actors, reports Leadership.
The events are taking place on the fringes of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, which, this year, will agree on the next set of Global Development Goals.
While the Dangote Group was nominated for the African Business of the Year, along with four other companies, the chairman of the group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is among the five nominees for the Business Leader Award. Likewise, the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) and its chief executive officer, Oscar Oyenma, were nominated for the awards of Best Corporate Social Responsibility, Good Corporate Governance and Business Leader. The managing director of Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base, Amy Jadesimi, was also nominated for the award of the Most Outstanding Woman in Business.
Guaranty Trust Bank and Youngstars Foundation were also nominated along with the NSE for Good Corporate Governance. Another Nigerian-based company, Red Media, was also nominated for the African Business of the Year and Best Corporate Social Responsibility awards.
Commenting on the awards, the managing director of IC Publications and group publisher of the African Business magazine, the organisers of the awards, Omar Ben Yedder, said, “It is encouraging to read the many achievements that are taking place all over the continent despite the headwinds and difficult global environment. The continent continues to be blessed with some remarkable individuals who are driven and relentless in their ambitions to play a transformative role.
