Ministry of Health Commissions Website for Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Awareness

The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health, Linus Awute has commissioned a website designed for online training and awareness campaign on Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers (VHF), according to the Federal Ministry of Information.

The Permanent Secretary in his remarks at the occasion averred that the website is purposed to serve as platform for education on the symptoms and treatment processes for VHF and other viral diseases. He also indicated that the project will bring about value – addition to the health sector as it will provide a podium for public sensitization and mobilization on disease prevention and control.

Linus Awute further explained that the initiative is a property of the Federal Ministry of Health as it was commissioned by the Ministry.  Adding, the website will be used for training and sensitization of medical doctors and other medical personnel. “Doctors and all health workers targeted for training will be mobilised to subscribe to this platform,” he emphasized.

While commending the Youth Corps  Member, who designed the website for his great innovation, he opined that the venture represents a milestone in the Ministry’s efforts to contain Ebola Virus Disease as well as other viral diseases. The Permanent Secretary challenged Nigerian youths to contribute towards the realisation of government’s quest for positive change to put Nigeria at same level with the developed countries of the world.

The CEO/National Coordinator of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Abdulsalami Nasidi in his comments lauded the corps member – Farida Mohammed Kabir for imploring her ingenuity in the development of such software within the short time of her service in the organization. He added that the software has been endorsed for use as NCDC’s tracking project.

The Director – General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Johnson Olawumi (Brigadier General) represented at the occasion by Samson Ateli in his remarks commended  Mohammed Kabir’s effort, saying it is in line with the NYSC development initiative launched in 2014. He expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continuous support for the scheme as well as the training offered to corps members across the nation.

Speaking during the event, Farida Mohammed Kabir, who is a graduate of Zoology from the AhmaduDello University, Zaria said that her motivation on the project span through her desire to disseminate information on VHF and similar diseases because of the scare and misery that the Ebola scourge has brought to the country.
