LUTH takes medical services to host community

As part of the activities to celebrate the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) at 60, the hospital on Wednesday took medical services to its host community – Mushin.

The News Agency of Nigeri (NAN) reports that LUTH is located at Idi-Araba in Mushin, Lagos.

Dr Hope Nwawolo, Deputy Director, Administration, LUTH, who addressed newsmen at Eko Boys High School, Mushin, said that the hospital wants to reach out to members of the public within its  vicinity in appreciation of them.

Nwawolo said that it was also a LUTH Corporate Social Responsibility to reach out to them to appreciate them for being with them through the 60 years of existence of the hospital.

She said there was no better way to do it than render services that they ordinarily would go to the hospital and pay for.

She emphasised that LUTH was doing it free of charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that departments present at the medical outreach included Dental, Opthamology, Vital Signs, Pharmacy, Family Planning, Medical Consultation among others.

Speaking, Mr Femi Nuga, Supervisor for Health in Mushin Local Government, said that the community was also celebrating LUTH’s 60 years of existence.

Nuga said that different ailments were being treated at the free clinic at no cost.

“As you can see, we have the eyes clinic, dental clinic, laboratory, where we can take tests. Also we have some doctors for consultation.

“We have the pharmacy that  is also here to take drugs, to dispense drugs and the rest.

“We have a lot of programmes that we are doing today for the people in this community,” he said.

Nuga said that the community was celebrating on a large scale and that was why people were present.

“Health is wealth, whether we like it or not; and no matter how rich you are, you are nothing if you don’t have a good health.

“I feel good that at least LUTH is able to impact lives right now.”

A beneficiary, Mrs Abosede Amusa, said that she came for breast cancer screening.

Amusa said that this was not the first time LUTH was reaching out but that it was the third time this year.

She said that she initilly thought that the services were not free  but when she came, she was screened for free.

Another beneficiary, Mr Tobi Adekeye, said that he came for eyes screening.

Adekeye said that his eyes were checked free of charge and he was very happy about it.
