According to Supersport, former Super Eagles assistant coach, Joe Erico has described as good omen the renewed two-year contract handed to Stephen Keshi as the side manager.
The former Mali and Togo manager on Tuesday in Abuja signed a two-year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ending months of speculation as well as cat and mouse relationship between the two parties.
Erico said it was a right step to reengage the former Nigerian strongman to lead the 2013 Afcon winners to the qualifications campaign for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
“It’s a good thing to offer him another two-year contract to continue as Super Eagles head coach.
“Keshi is still our own and couldn’t be said to have performed badly or a failure in his first stint with the side.
“Eagles past expatriate coaches have readily abandoned the side at championships but Keshi has always come back home because he is a Nigerian.
“NFF has made the task a bit easier with his reinstatement, I don’t think there is any new thing to write or a statement to make, we just wait to see how things span out and pray he repeats the performance that made him famous,” said the former Nigerian shot stopper to supersport.com.
The two-year contract means Keshi will oversee Nigeria’s qualification campaign for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Keshi’s last stint as Super Eagles manager saw Nigeria unable to qualify for the 2015 Afcon in Equatorial Guinea won by the Elephants of Ivory Coast.
