“Governors Can’t Afford N18, 000 Minimum Wage” – NGF Chairman
The chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulazeez Yari, has said State governments will find it difficult to pay the N18, 000 minimum wage if the current decline in the global oil price persists.
Yari said the governors’ forum would have to sit down with the labour union with a view to reviewing the minimum wage; either by continuing it or downsizing.
The NGF Chairman, who is also the governor of Zamfara State, stated this while addressing State House correspondents on Thursday shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
He, however, said contrary to recent media reports, the governors’ forum had not decided to stop the N18,000 minimum wage.
According to the governor, the forum is only looking at the situation in the country and in the global economy.
