VETERAN JOURNALIST, DIMGBA IGWE KILLED BY HIT & RUN DRIVER

Dimgba_IgweeeDimgba Igwe, vice Chairman, The Sun Newspapers was this morning knocked down by a vehicle while jogging around his residence in the Okota area of Lagos.

Igwe sustained a major injury and was immediately taken to the hospital where he underwent surgical emergency but unfortunately, died shortly afterwards.

Mr. Igwe first established a strong presence in the 1980s in Nigerian journalism when he worked atth the Concord newspaper group owned by the late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola. Mr. Igwe wrote a highly regarded column that focused on political and literary issues. He was a co-editor of the highly respected Weekly Concord, with his longtime friend and partner, Mike Awoyinfa.

Igwe and Awoyinfa were to later team up again as founding deputy managing director and managing director of the Sun newspaper group owned by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu. On leaving that position four years ago, He and Mr. Awoyinfa teamed up to found Entertainment Express. Until his death, Mr. Igwe continued to write a back page column for the Sun that appeared every Tuesday.

The Chairman of the Sun Publishing Limited Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu expressed shocked at the incident and described the day as the darkest day in the history of the organization.
