Grapro, one of the leading outdoor advertising companies in Nigeria which boasts of an unprecedented inventory of specialized outdoor products uniquely tailored to meet the needs of its clients has launched a public awareness campaign in key states of the federation using its LED billboard screens, static large format platforms and a comprehensive brochure on the mode of transmission, symptoms and necessary measures towards the prevention of the Ebola virus, which posed a serious threat in the past few weeks in West Africa.
As the news and apprehension over the deadly Ebola virus disease continues to spread, Grapro decided to embark on the sensitization campaign to curb the spread of the disease. Following reported infection of the female doctor who treated the late Mr. Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought Ebola virus into the shores of Nigeria, and the news of the death of one of the nurses who treated him, Nigerians have started heeding to the advice of maintaining a more hygienic lifestyle and obeying the prevention measures.
In a release signed by Prince Emeka Okezie frpa, Grapro’s managing director, it was revealed that Grapro selected some of its strategic locations in Lagos, Abuja and other states with large population to launch the first phase of the Ebola awareness campaign and will later move to other states of the federation to ensure that the dreaded virus is nipped-in- the- bud. According to him “ten thousand copies of the Ebola enlightenment brochure have been printed and distributed, to corporate organizations, churches and mosques in Lagos”.
He continues “Through the company’s platforms, we are optimistic that the public enlightenment campaign would help to prevent the further spread of Ebola. The religious leaders, community leaders, associations, students and other groups are encouraged to take the same message to their members on preventive measures and procedures: frequent hands wash, to avoid coming in contact with some animals known to be carriers, avoid physical contact of infected people. Highlighted also are the signs and symptoms of the disease to include onset of fever, weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat, conjunctivitis, hiccups, dyspepsia followed by vomiting, diarrhoea and rash”.
Prince Emeka Okezie noted that Grapro has also encouraged people to report any case of fever that comes with bleeding for necessary action in terms of isolation or quarantine to be taken. He concludes that “The fear of contracting Ebola virus has become the beginning of wisdom”.
