Messi & Ronaldo won’t be around forever, says Simeone
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone believes his side will be able to close the gap on Real Madrid and Barcelona soon enough, as Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will not be around forever.
The Vicente Calderon club are the only side to win La Liga other than the Clasico duo since Rafa Benitez’s Valencia took the title in 2004.
Simeone says he will keep fighting to catch up with the two Primera Division frontrunners but feels that, in time, their duopoly will be broken.
When asked by Onda Cero about his transfer plans, he said: “I’ve always looked for the essence of the club, to belong here.
“If you understand where you are, you’ll get more. It’s not easy to play for Atletico. Talent is not enough, the bar is very high. Messi and Ronaldo will not last for 100 years, at some points we’ll get closer.
“For Altetico to keep wining we can only do one thing – work and fight.”
Simeone also said that he feels angry that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is bearing the brunt of his side’s trophy failure this season.
“The way he is being judged makes me angry because when you win, you win as one,” the Argentine added.
