The new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari has taken over the mantle of leadership at the corporation headquarters in Abuja.
While delivering his inaugural address during the official Handing-Over ceremony held at the NNPC Tower on Monday, the new GMD promised to build the corporation to a level that will make it compete globally.
He said: ‘We will build this company to enable it compete with its global peers. We are not saying we will not make mistakes along the way, but we will not make deliberate mistakes.”
Kyari whose tenure begins officially on Monday, July 8th, 2019, also promised to deal decisively within corrupt practices within the Nigerian Oil and Gas sector. “There will be no corruption without discretion. We will work with all stakeholders within the NNPC to ensure there is no discretion in the system”, he said.
He noted that he recognises the weight of being a GMD of the Nigerian biggest oil corporation, saying that if he knew no other thing, he knows quite well that there’s eternal accountable time when he will stand before his creator to give full account of all his actions.

He commended the outgoing Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru for his keynote achievements while at the helm of affairs.
‘In the last 3 years, we have made giant strides under Dr. Baru’s leadership. I am an insider in many of the laudable achievements recorded under him. We are going to deliver on the expectations of Nigerians from this great Corporation”, he added.
Kyari, who until becoming the GMD of NNPC, was Group General Manager in charge of the Crude Oil Marketing Division of NNPC further stated that under his watch, the corporation shall remain more open, more credible, more focused and more accountable to all Nigerians.
“We will deliver all our four refineries within the life of President Buhari’s administration. We shall seek strategic partnerships to ensure Nigeria becomes a net exporter of petroleum products”, he added.
The new NNPC Chief further thanked President Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve.
He said it is a challenge and that he would serve with integrity and never do anything against the interest of the Corporation.
