Stop Mudslinging, Sultan Tells Jonathan, Buhari
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111, Monday advised President Goodluck Jonathan and Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to conduct their campaigns based on issues devoid of religious sentiments by avoiding the use of abusive language and mudslinging.
He also called on the President to do whatever it takes to bring an end to the security challenge bedeviling the country.
The monarch made the plea yesterday, when President Jonathan paid him a homage in his palace in Sokoto.
He described as disheartening the attitude of political leaders who engage in abusing each other rather than conduct their campaigns based on issues.
The monarch expressed deep concern at the way and manner political campaigns had been turned into religious and ethnic battles in the country.
