Sanwo-Olu inaugurates Ultra Modern Sangotedo Market
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Wednesday inaugurated the ultra modern Sangotedo Market in Eti Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Inaugurating the market during his working visit to Eti Osa Local Government Area, Sanwo-Olu said it would bring improved commercial opportunities to several communities.
He said this would also translate into higher earnings, more jobs, and better standards of living for the residents in the local government and its environs.
According to him, the market is government asset that had been passed on to the residents, hence, they must ensure that it is adequately taken care of.
”The market belongs to you, and you should look after it and ensure that it is always kept clean and well-maintained,” he said.
The governor commended the Chairman, Eti Osa East LCDA, Mr John Ogundare for naming the market after Late Rafiu Olufunmi, a former chairman of the LCDA.
He called on the LG/LCDA chairpersons to continue to collaborate with the state government, so as to deliver more democracy dividends to the residents of Lagos State.
In his address, the LCDA chairman, Ogundare said the new Sangotedo market project was initiated, following demand by the populace for a central market and healthcare facility.
He said the council prioritised the building of a modern primary health facility at the site of the old council secretariat, given the importance of the project to socio-economic wellbeing of the residents.
According to him, before the newly built ultra modern Sangotedo Market, the place first started as a cluster with sellers from other parts of Eti Osa East, and later became a full fleged market.
He said the structure was in a deplorable state, all because it did not have the facilities of a modern market.
Ogundare said the Olufunmi family of Eti-Osa later donated land for the market project, necessitating the council to allocate funds for its construction along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The council chairman named the market after his late predecessor, Mr Rafiu Olufunmi, who was the scion of the Olufunmi family that donated the land for the project.
An APC leader and chairman of Governor Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, said the rousing welcome accorded the governor by the populace showed the people’s approval of the current administration in the state.

Badru charged traders who would be using the new market to maintain the edifice and keep their trading activities within the perimeter of the market.
The new Sangotedo market is made up of 192 lock-up shops, 106 open shops, 28 suites, 65 key clamps, 12 chicken stalls, eight toilet facilities and parking lot for 100 cars at a time.
