Meret Manon Sarpong Bannerman — professionally known as Manon — is taking a temporary hiatus from global girl group Katseye to focus on her health and overall well-being.
The 23-year-old Swiss singer has been a core member of the Los Angeles-based, K-pop-inspired group since its official debut in June 2024.
In a statement shared via the group’s social platforms and Weverse community, Katseye confirmed the development, noting that the decision followed open discussions among members. The group said it “fully supports” Manon’s choice and remains committed to continuing scheduled activities during her absence.
Katseye will proceed with Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza and Yoonchae Jeung while Manon focuses on recovery.
A Break After a Breakthrough Year
The announcement comes after a landmark period for the group, including a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Earlier this year, Manon spoke publicly about the strong bond among members, emphasising communication and mutual support as central to navigating their rapid rise.
Reflecting on attending the Grammys, she described the moment as surreal and deeply meaningful — particularly as it coincided with Black History Month — expressing gratitude to artists and communities who paved the way.
Katseye was formed through The Debut: Dream Academy, a global talent search created through a partnership between HYBE and Geffen Records. The group officially debuted in June 2024 with their single Debut, with their formation journey documented in the Netflix series Pop Star Academy: Katseye.
Prioritising Health in a High-Pressure Industry
While no further details about the nature of Manon’s health concerns were disclosed, the move reflects a growing industry trend toward normalising rest and mental health care in high-intensity entertainment sectors, particularly within K-pop-inspired global acts.
