Cristiano Ronaldo enters pitch with refugee mascott

Syria91915Seven-year-old Syrian refugee Zied, the son of Osama Abdul Mohen, the man who was part of a viral video when a journalist tripped him in Hungary deliberately, lived his dream on Saturday.

Zied is a Cristiano Ronaldo fanatic, and he got to walk out on the pitch with the star before Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Granada on Saturday. The club brought the family to the stadium to enjoy the La Liga clash to show support.

Statement from Real Madrid:

The family of Syrian refugees was in attendance to watch the encounter in the flesh, on the invitation of the president, Florentino Pérez. Before the game started, little Zied walked out onto the pitch hand-in-hand with his hero, Cristiano Ronaldo, as the crowd applauded and cheered. As well as that, both teams came out onto the pitch wearing T-shirts of support that bore the slogan“El fútbol professional con los refugiados” (Professional football stands with the refugees).

It’s nice to see clubs doing what they can to improve the lives of others, especially those escaping places where the quality of life no longer exists for many.
