Zenith Bank CEO, Emefiele Now CBN Governor-Designate

President Goodluck Jonathan has named Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the current Managing Director of Zenith Bank of Nigeria as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor-designate.
In a letter addressed to Senate President David Mark and read on the floor of the Senate, President Jonathan urged the parliament to treat the nomination with dispatch, saying Emefiele would replace Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, whose tenure expires in June.
In another letter to the Senate president, Jonathan sought the confirmation of Mr. Adelabu Adebayo Adekola as Deputy Governor of CBN in line with Section 8 (1) and (2) of the CBN Act.
It would be recalled that only this morning, the president suspended the outgoing CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on alleged financial recklessness.
Mr. Godwin I. Emefiele is the Chief Executive officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, he served as Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc. from 2001. He was also Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking, Treasury, Financial Control and Strategic Planning of Zenith Bank Plc. and had been Management team since inception. Before commencing his banking career, he lectured Finance and Insurance at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and University of Port Harcourt, respectively. Mr. Emefiele serves as Director of ACCION Microfinance Bank Limited. He is also an alumnus of Executive Education at Stanford University, Harvard University (2004) and Wharton Graduate Schools of Business (2005). Mr. Emefiele holds a B.Sc Degree in 1984 and an MBA Degree in Finance in 1986, both from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
