Following reports that Nigerian telecom operators are considering Stakeholders in the country’s blocking free OTT content services such as Skype, Google Hangout, Vibre and Tango, on smartphones, over concerns of revenue loss on international calls and messaging stakeholders have kicked against the move.
There are arguments that the introduction of those services was a big breakthrough for the global technology landscape, and Nigerians must not be denied the benefits enjoyed by subscrbers all over the world..
The OTT platforms are convenient and ideal communication avenues that are usually at no cost to subscriber but Nigerian telcos may be trying to force their subscribers to patronize their own messaging services in order to increase their revenue.
