Voters waiting for LP in Lagos — C’taker C’ttee

The Lagos State Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party (LP) has directed party loyalists and supporters to hit the streets to mobilise votes for party’s candidates.

It says the electorate are waiting for LP at every nook and cranny of the state.

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Mrs Oluwatoyin Shokunbi, gave the marching order while giving an update on the LP campaign at a news conference on Monday in Lagos.

The conference was held at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat, Yaba, Lagos State.

She said that the electorate was waiting for LP at every nook and cranny of the state.

Shokunbi said that the committee had been working day and night in all councils to deliver the state for the party.

She said that the committee, comprising nomination from six stakeholders of the all interest groups, had been inaugurated and was on the field galvanising votes.

According to her, the committee, inaugurated on Dec. 15, 2022, has been going round to make sure the party wins in Lagos State and at federal level.

She said that the committee had also inaugurated the Lagos State Labour Party Campaign Council.

The council is to coordinate all campaigns and galvanise votes for the Presidential Candidate of the party, Mr Peter Obi and all other candidates in 2023 general elections.

Shokunbi said: “They are already working hard in all the local governments and they are building necessary templates for the campaign activities.

“We have our structure running through the 20 local governments and all the wards in the state.

“We have harmonised and we will continue to harmonise all interest groups even at the local government and ward levels.

“We are poised to take over the ruling party, not only at the centre but also in Lagos State. We know that the masses and indeed citizens of Nigeria are waiting for Labour Party.”

She said that the committee had inaugurated harmonised and unified caretaker committee for the party in some local governments.

“This will happen in all the local governments in Lagos State”.

“Our campaign strategy is down to the local governments, wards, polling units, and down to individuals and one-on-one basis.

“Our campaign councils are in all the wards of Lagos State. They have been doing so much work since they were inaugurated. There is no rest until we achieve victory in all our elections,” Shokunbi added.

The chairman, who noted that the party now had a very functional executive caretaker committee, urged members and loyalists not to be deterred but focus on winning elections.

Shokunbi said that the LP campaign involved mobilisation, sensitisation, orientation and education of all voters.

According to her, the party in the state will soon begin mega rallies in all the 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos State and in all the wards

She said that the committee would on Saturday begin “Operation Know Your Polling Unit and Stand by Your Polling Unit”, which would run at the same time in all the local governments for a period of two weeks.

Shokunbi said that the committee had been visiting markets to sensitise the people and introduce the party to them.

The chairman said that the committee would intensify its harmonisation of executives at different local governments and such would be replicated at the state level.

According to her, as a mother, efforts will be made to bring everybody in the party together, including those whose tenure had expired.

“We need to hit the streets, we must go to the grassroots, the people are waiting for us,” she added.

According to her, what will count is votes, hence party loyalists should hit nooks and crannies of the state to mobilise, rather than worry over non essential questions.

Urging the members to be steadfast and work towards same goal, the chairman said that most questions would be resolved in the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event had in attendance members of the executive caretaker committee and campaign councils.
