The whole world has been reeling in shock with the stunning victory of business tycoon and Republican candidate Donald J. Trump as he emerged the 45th President of the United States defeating Democratic candidate, Hilary Clinton.
Senator Hilary Clinton was on her way to making history as the first woman to rule the most popular and sought after country in the world but her ambition was trumped by her opponent. With her emerging victorious at all three presidential debates, everyone thought she had edged out ‘The Donald’ as heis fondly called and that she would be smiling to the White House after results were announced on November 9th 2016.
It is safe to say that Hilary Clinton had the most publicized support from current President Barrack Obama and his wife, to international celebrities and black Americans in the US; but that was not enough to land her seat at the White House as the first female President of the United States.
Trump’s triumph over Clinton has the potential for overturning the world order. The results amounted to repudiation, not only of Hilary Clinton, but of President Obama, whose legacy is suddenly imperiled. It was a decisive demonstration of power by a largely overlooked coalition of mostly blue-collar white and working-class voters who felt that the promise of the United States had slipped their grasp amid decades of globalization and multiculturalism.
Donald Trump’s win in states like Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania seems likely to set off financial jitters and immediate unease among international allies, many of which were startled when Trump in his campaign cast doubt on the necessity of America’s military commitments abroad and its allegiance to international economic partnerships.
Many were shocked at his win in those 4 states because President Obama secured their votes during his presidential campaign and he and the First Lady had personally visited those states to campaign for Hilary Clinton.
From the moment Donald Trump entered the campaign, with a shocking set of claims that Mexican immigrants were rapists and criminals, Trump was widely underestimated as a candidate, first by his opponents for the Republican nomination and later by Mrs. Clinton, his Democratic rival.
His rise was largely missed by polling organizations and data analysts. And an air of improbability trailed his campaign, to the detriment of those who dismissed his angry message, his improvisational style and his appeal to disillusioned voters.
Some of his suggestions to reducing the crime rate were the ban of Muslims into entering the United States. He threatened opponents, promising lawsuits against news organizations that covered him critically and women who accused him of sexual assault.
Donald Trump’s victory is a clear case of a man who had a dream and was very determined to achieve it at all costs irrespective of any hurdle he had to cross. He never gave up and kept pushing and today he is about to occupy one of the most important offices in the world.
Though many might not agree with many of his approaches to certain issues, he deserves to be applauded for his dedication, grit and perseverance.
