The Almagamated Union of Motor Mechanics and Technicians of Nigeria (AUOMMATON) says it will train no fewer than 55,500 mechanics and technicians in conversion of petro-powered vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
Mr Oseni Suleiman, AUOMMATON National President, disclosed this at the inauguration of the union on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said the union would partner with the Energy Transition Company (ETC) in the training of the 55,000 beneficiaries – 1,500 in each of the 36 States and the FCT.

“We shall be training our artisans in hundred batches. In preparation for the training, we have established a pivotal training centre within Apo Mechanics Estate, which is also billed for commissioning on Wednesday.
“We respectively seek the support of the Federal Government, FCT Administration and other relevant agencies, corporate individuals, and the general public on this laudable project,” he said.
Suleiman recalled that the union trained 100 males and females on the CNG conversion with the support of the Nigerian Armed Forces and Federal Science and Technical College Orozo Abuja, which offered their respective training facilities
“AUOMMATON has keyed into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, hence, his appointment as the Grand Patron of the union.
“We want the Federal Government to deliberately put partnership plans in place that will enable artisans to take over repair and services of all government vehicles in Nigeria and stop buying brand new vehicles every four years.
“We are set to revolutionise the Nigerian maintenance culture as it affects automobile and transportation system generally,“ he said.
Speaking, at the event, Alhaji Yusuf Othman, National President of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), said the creation of AUOMMATON was a milestone for the professionals and the entire transportation sector in Nigeria.
Othman, who was represented by the former NARTO National President, Mr Kassim Bataiya, urged the union to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and excellence.
According to him, the transportation industry is evolving rapidly with new technologies, innovations, and methodologies emerging every day.
“The future of our industry depends on our ability to effectively adapt, innovate, and collaborate.
“In this regard, I want to assure you that NARTO will be committed to supporting the union in every possible way,” he said.
