UN Plans Rehabilitation For Chibok Girls
A statement on United Nations website said the organization in collaboration with the World Health Organisation as well as the United Nations Children’s Fund, will set up clinics and provide health screening for any of the Chibok girls coming back, and also plan to provide proper education for the girls.
In the statement, the representative for United Nations Population Fund, Rati Ndhlovu said, “The girls are running from home and they have no menstruation pads and have nothing to use. They need water. They need the basic things that keep a woman dignified.
“The girls are asked questions like becoming pregnant during times of insecurity. It may not be the best time to be pregnant when you can hardly sleep in your house, when you are running all the time.”
Also, the UN and its partners are leading and supporting coordination efforts to ensure synergies around interventions. This will make up for the closed health clinics and shortage of health workers. Ndhlovu noted that in that regard, the UN is working with local non-governmental organisations and engaging the Red Cross on logistical matters.
It would be recalled that since the girls escaped from the sect, neither the federal nor the Borno State government has done anything to rehabilitate these girls. Instead, they are left to their fates in the same area where they were attacked before with increased security risks.
