Cristiano Ronaldo’s second half goal for Real Madrid at FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night, gave them a 2-0 win. That was his ninth in the competition already this season; and took him ahead of Inzaghi’s tally for AC Milan in 2002-03, Hernan Crespo’s for Inter Milan in 2002-03, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s for Manchester United in 2004-05 and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s for Paris Saint-Germain this season, all of whom had registered eight goals.
Ancelotti, Inzaghi’s coach at Milan when he set the record and Ibrahimovic’s boss last year at PSG, said the former Italy striker would not have liked to have seen his tally surpassed.
“I think that Inzaghi will not be happy tonight because he has lost this record,” Ancelotti said. “[Ronaldo] has gone ahead of a very strong player. Inzaghi was very strong inside the area and Ibrahimovic is powerful with a fantastic ability to score and assist. Cristiano Ronaldo is a complete forward who can score goals in every way possible.”
