Nigerian award winning R&B musician, Timi Dakolo on Monday, November 4, 2019 signed a deal with Virgin EMI, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group (UMG).
Dakolo made the announcement via his Instagram page with a picture of himself and the label’s Chairman shaking hands.The picture was captioned “He said Hello Timi,My name is @ted_cockle and I am the Chairman of Virgin EMI Records @virginemi ????????@universalmusicgroup . I just want to personally welcome you home.”

Virgin EMI which is a subsidiary of Universal Music Group was founded in 2013. The company is a result of merging Mercury Records and Virgin Records. Currently, the label operates two A&R and marketing streams in Virgin Records and EMI Records respectively. At some point, EMI was the biggest record label in the world behind Sony Music, Warner Music and Universal Music. Virgin Records was founded by Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nick Powell and Tom Newman.
