Taylor Swift Wins Big but Kanye West Steals show at 2015 MTV VMAs
Several moments made highlights of the 32 annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) which was held on Sunday August 30, with performances from Nicki Minaj, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams and many others. But, the biggest winners of the night were the two who fatefully shared the VMAs stage in 2009.
Taylor Swift, who led all nominees, had a huge night at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. The Bad Blood singer picked up the biggest award of the night – Video of the Year, as well as Best Female Video and Best Pop Video.
However, Kanye West was the one who left a lasting impression at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
The rapper was presented the Vanguard award, which honors an artist’s creative body of work, and in his acceptance speech he opted out of talking about his music videos and instead broached many subjects, including his famous interruption of Swift at the 2009 VMAs.
Throughout the speech, he touched on subjects such as fatherhood, getting booed at stadiums, defending artists, and how he doesn’t understand award shows — including a dig at MTV and its grab at “ratings.” But his big moment came as he wrapped up, when he announced that he will run for president in 2020.
Other singers who had reason to celebrate after the show were Kendrick Lamar, who picked up two awards, including Best Collaboration with Swift for Bad Blood, and Fetty Wap, who was the recipient of the Artist to Watch honour.
