Strike: LCCI tasks FG, ASUU on resolution, holds education fair
The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called for a quick resolution of the rift between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Engr. Leye Kupoluyi, Chairman, Trade Promotion Board, LCCI, gave the advice at a press conference on the LCCI Lagos Education Fair on Thursday in Lagos.
Kupoluyi noted that the frequency of strikes by the union was causing unquantifiable losses, not only to the nation’s education sector, but to the nation as a whole.
He stressed that Public-Private Partnership remained the best option for tackling national issues, including the education sector.
He said the chamber as part of its contributions to the desired repositioning of the nation’s education sector would hold of its maiden education fair tagged, “Lagos Education Fair.”
According to him, the two-day fair scheduled for March 3-4, 2022 would bring together investors, operators, regulatory agencies, service providers and other stakeholders to deepen the conversation on the worrisome state of education in Nigeria.
Kupoluyi said another goal of the fair was to ensure that human capital development enjoyed deserved priority through increased efficiency and productivity for sustainable economic growth and development.
He added that the LCCI would use the resolutions of the fair to champion the concern of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), many of whom had lamented employee’s lack of requisite capacity.
“The theme of the fair is, ‘Transforming Education: Enhancing Access to Qualitative Tertiary Education.’
“It underscores the imperative of ensuring that many more pupils are not only able to enrol in tertiary institutions, but also enjoy excellent learning opportunities.

“Government must also ensure sustained dialogue with all stakeholders so that our education system will be able to meet workforce needs and enhance national productivity.
“We are of the belief that this fair will help to proffer not just solutions to the challenges our education sector currently faces, but also specify resolutions that would fast track the implementation of proffered solutions,” he said.
