Rohr to name squad for AFCON 2019 qualifier

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr  says he will name  his squad for a  2019  Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in March.

The draw for AFCON 2019 qualifying tournament, according to CAF will be staged on Thursday in Libreville, Gabon.

“I will make my list by the end of February,” AfricanFootball.com quoted  Rohr  as saying on Tuesday.

“This will depend on what the players are doing at their clubs.

“Some new players could come;  in the full-back, we have somebody, but it’s too early to speak about that now.”

The German said the squad will consist of the domestic league players if they play well in the new season, which begins this weekend.

“I will watch the Super Cup (between Rangers and IfeanyiUbah) to see if I could see some players in the league,” he said.

“It will be interesting for me to watch this game as I have already watched IfeanyiUbah during the Federation Cup final, now I will see the Nigeria champions.”

Meanwhile, the Kenya 2018 Championship of African Nations  qualifiers  will begin on April 20.

The tournament is exclusively reserved for players who ply their trade  in their domestic leagues.

Nigeria’s first performance was at the 2014 edition of the competition in South Africa, where they finished third.

They also featured at the 2016 edition in Rwanda.

Super Eagles assistant coach Salisu Yusuf will be in charge of the home-based team and he will be assisted by  Enugu Rangers coach Imama Amapakabo.
