In the wake of Kunle Odunlami’s trip to Morocco for pre-contract formalities with Raja Cassablanca without informing his employers, Sunshine Stars have slammed the player with an indefinite suspension.
The 25-year-old defender abandoned his side in Asaba, Delta State on their way to Enugu for a Nigeria Professional Football League Week 14 encounter against Rangers before embarking on a trip to the north African nation to undergo medical examinations with the Green Devils.
In a press release made available to Goal and signed by the club’s media officer Wahab Bankole, the management of the Akure Gunners has clamped down heavily while reporting the player’s agent and the Botola Pro side to the appropriate quarters.
“The Management of Sunshine Stars International of Akure has suspended Mr. Ebenezer Kunle Odunlami indefinitely for absconding from the team,” the statement read.
“Mr Kunle Odunlami will be recalled absconded and abandoned the team at Asaba, Delta State, on the way to honour a week 14 match of the Glo Premier League against Rangers of Enugu on Sunday, 28th of June, 2015 without any official permission from the club. We later learnt that he traveled to Morocco to engage in talks with Raja Casablanca on a possible transfer.
“The Management of Sunshine Stars has reported the involvement and activities of Mr. Oluwasegun Jewel, the purported agent of Mr. Odunlami to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF for his lack professionalism in handling the situation.
“The Management of Sunshine Stars has also communicated the case and suspension of Mr Kunle Odunlami to the Nigeria Football Federation, the League Management Company, LMC, Players Status Arbitration Committee as well as the TMS Manager of the NFF.
“Also, the management of Sunshine Stars has complained against the illegal approach of the player by Raja Casablanca of Morocco to the appropriate authorities. Raja Casablanca’s action is in breach of Article 18, paragraph 3 of the Fifa Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players,” it concluded.
