The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maj.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has appealed to public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to assist in actualising the NYSC Trust Fund.
Ibrahim made the appeal on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Govermnent Area of Abia.
According to him, the fund will surely enhance the smooth operation of the scheme, when fully realised.
He said it would also help to address the infrastructural challenge and boost the skills and entrepreneurship development programme designed to empower corps members for self-employment and wealth creation.
The NYSC boss, represented by the Abia Co-ordinator, Mr Denis Jingi, commended the House of Representatives for the progress made so far on the bill for the establishment of the fund.
He further solicited the support of all stakeholders for the success of the scheme’s Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers.

“The initiative is aimed at providing easier access to free and qualitative health care, especially for the rural poor,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1,495 corps members, comprising 564 males and 931 females, were sworn in at the ceremony.
The Chief Judge of Abia, Justice Onuoha Ogwe, represented by Justice Chimezie Nwakama, administered the oath of allegiance on the corps members.
The highlight of the event was the birthday celebration organised by the Camp Director, Mrs Nkechi Goddy-Ekezie, in honour of all the corps members born in March.
