More Knocks for Buhari Over Planned Fulani Radio

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have joined other Nigerians to condemn the move by the Federal Government to acquire a license and set up a strictly Fulani radio station to reach the Fulani herdsmen across the country.

The association said the moves validated former President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s comment about the planned Fulanisation of the country.

The Federal Government through the minister of Education, Adamu Adamu had earlier announced that the proposed radio station would operate on frequency 720KHz and would be strictly in Fulani language.

But the Christian body, in a statement by the special adviser to Its President, Bayo Oladeji, lashed out at the Buhari-led government.

Ayokunle said: ‘It was reported in the newspaper that the government planned to give the Miyetti Allah N100bn. The government denied it only for the Miyetti Allah to own up, saying it was approved by former President Goodluck Jonathan. Who is fooling who? ‘Why didn’t they set up a radio station for farmers too? Where is the radio station for the bandits in Zamfara, or for the Niger Delta militants? No single person has been prosecuted for the killings in the North Central.’

‘Is the allegation by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that there is a planned Fulanisation of the country not playing out now? Every adult in the North listens to the radio. So why can’t they reach the herdsmen on the existing radio stations? Why do they need to set up a different radio station for them? They should stop fooling us.’

It could be recalled that the southern and Middle belt leaders’ forum had on Wednesday rejected federal government’s plan to acquire an Amplitude Modulation (AM) radio broadcast licence to reach herdsmen across various locations in the country.

The group, in a statement signed by Yinka Odunakin, Bassey Henahaw, Isuwa Dogo and Chigozie Ogbu said Nigeria was suffering from the Militia activities of herdsmen.
