Maureen Chigbo Sworn in as New GOCOP President
The Publisher of Realnews, Ms. Maureen Chigbo, has been sworn in as the new president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) for a first-term, 2-year Tenure.
Chigbo who is the first female to assume that position, takes over from the publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr. Dotun Oladipo who led the guild for 4 years.
Chigbo is a well-heeled journalism professional who cut her journalism teeth about 3 decades ago and has worked in some of the most respected media houses in Nigeria, including The Guardian and Newswatch where she rose to become the general news editor. She had also served as the Vice-President of GOCOP for 4 years where she earned the love and respect of members for her hard work, dedication and passion for stellar results and overall excellence.
It is expected that she will bring her valuable experience to bear in her new position as the President and leader of the august group which comprises some of Nigeria’s finest and most respected journalists whose imprints remain etched in Nigeria’s chequered journalism landscape.
Others members of the new expanded set of the Executive Committee (Exco) of the Guild sworn include: Mr Danlami Nmodu, mni as the Deputy President; Mr Ken Ugbechie as Vice President, South; Mr Tom Chaiheman emerged Vice President, North; Mr Collins Edomaruse as General Secretary; Mr Olumide Iyanda as Deputy Secretary-General; Mr Remmy Nweke as Publicity Secretary; Ichie Azuh Arinze as Financial Secretary and Mrs Yemisi Izuora as the Treasurer.
Messrs Max Amuchie, Horatius Egua, James Ume; Akeem Oyetunji, Raymond Ukaegbu and Tony Edike were elected Zonal Coordinators for the North Central, North East, North West, South West, South-South and South East, respectively complete the new pan-Nigeria executive committee of GOCOP.
The new president while promising to run an all-inclusive administration called on other members of the executive committee and all members to join hands with her in lifting GOCOP and Nigeria to the desired pedestal.
