A German holidaymaker is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after falling from a seventh-floor hotel balcony on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Friday morning, according to local authorities.
The man fell from the balcony around 7:30 am (0530 GMT). Local news reported that he had only recently returned after a long night of partying at the hotel.
The hotel is located just two blocks from the Ballermann beach popular with German tourists.
Spanish police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
A collision on the balcony on the fifth floor somewhat broke the fall, according to the Crónica Balear local newspaper.
The man reportedly did not lose consciousness in spite of the serious injuries.
The newspaper reported that a hotel employee gave first aid before the rescue service arrived and that friends of the man were deeply upset.
There were fatal balcony accidents on Mallorca almost every year so much so that the incidences were known as balconing.
This usually happened when young holidaymakers either jumped from the balcony into a pool as a dare or had locked themselves out and wanted to get into their room via the balcony.
More often than not, alcohol was involved and the drunk victims lost their balance.
