The Super Eagles missed out on a massive payday, following their shock 2-0 defeat to Madagascar, in their final Group B fixture at the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to reports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) top officials handed $450,000 (N162m) to the team’s secretary, Dayo Enebi, before the game to take care of bonus payouts.
After the team lost and failed to fulfill their own part of the bargain, the money was clearly returned to the NFF, pending when Nigeria take to pitch on July 7 for their Round of 16 fixture.
Last Friday, the NFF met the deadline agreed with the players by depositing money in their individual accounts, to cover allowances and bonuses for the two victories so far in Egypt.
Gernot Rohr’s men are waiting to find out their next opponents – the runners-up in Group F.
