The Lagos State House of Assembly has mourned the death of Nigeria’s envoy to Spain, Chief Demola Seriki, who died early hours of Thursday.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Mr Setonji David, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the death of Seriki remained a huge loss to the state and Nigeria.
David, a two-term lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency II in the assembly, said that Seriki’s death came when he was most needed.
“Seriki was a great leader of our party. It’s a great loss to the immediate family, our party, the people of Lagos state, and Nigeria in general.
“I pray that the Almighty God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the spokesman of the house, said.
NAN reports that Seriki, a Lagos APC chieftain and former Minister of State for Defence, died at the age of 63 on Thursday in Madrid.
Born on Nov. 30, 1959 in Lagos Island, Seriki, the Otun Aare of Lagos, was a well-respected politician, teacher, businessman, financial expert, sports administrator and enthusiast and public administrator.
He had his earlier education in Nigeria and later proceeded for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the United States of America (USA) where he bagged his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Accounting from the City University of New York in the U.S A.
He also had a Diploma in International and Regional Security at Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts.
His passion for education earned him laurels back in the United States of America, where he became a licensed Accounting and Business Mathematics teacher with the New York City Board of Education.
